Dr. Cindy Hanson, Associate Professor of Marketing, joined HPU in 2011 following a distinguished career as the Fred L. Proctor Senior Professor of Marketing at Greensboro College. Immediately upon her arrival, she made significant contributions to student learning in the classroom, utilizing her experience, knowledge, and talents. She teaches marketing principles classes and upper level classes including marketing communications, international marketing, and marketing management. Dr. Hanson is responsible for bringing compelling speakers from the marketing profession to campus and sponsoring marketing projects—from national case competitions to partnerships with local companies—that make the field come to life for her students. Recent marketing projects include a case competition featuring the Chevy Sonic and semester-long consulting assignments for Carson-Dellosa Publishing and Cheerwine.

Dr. Hanson’s research focuses on advertising and consumer behavior and includes topics such as:

• The Effect of Celebrity Status and Product/Endorser Fit on the Effectiveness of Athlete Endorsers
• Environmental Concern, Attitude toward Green Corporate Practices, and Green Consumer Behavior in the United States and Canada
• The Effect of Advertorial Format and Copy Length on Attitudes of Female and Male Audiences
• The Use of Advertorials in Women’s and Teens’ Fashion Magazines

Dr. Hanson earned her Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Maryland, her MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, and her Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
